Tampa Cheek Surgery
High and well defined cheekbones are a traditional feature of facial beauty. In patients who lack prominent cheekbones, cheek augmentation with cheek implants serves as an excellent option to add desireable fullness to the cheeks and improve facial proportions. These silicone implants vary in dimension so that the implant selected is tailored to the patient's anatomy.
In certain patients, the cheekbones are well positioned, but prominence of the cheek fat may disrupt facial proportions. In these patients, the buccal fat pad is enlarged and creates a rounded, cheeky appearance. In these patients, reduction of the malar fat pad or cheek fat reduction serves to create a more defined facial appearance. The result is a more desireable facial profile.
At New Tampa Plastic Surgery, we offer both cheek augmentation as well as cheek fat reduction procedures. During your consultation with Dr. Fakhre, he will examine you and help determine which type of cheek surgery is best suited for you.
Reasons for Considering Cheek Implant Surgery or Cheek Fat Reduction in Tampa:
- A desire to improve facial proportions
- Flattened cheekbones that lack projection and fullness
- Overly enlarged or 'chubby' cheeks creating the appearance of being overweight
The Cheek Augmentation or Cheek Fat Reduction Procedure
Cheek surgery typically lasts for about one to two hours and is typically performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient going home later the same day. When cheek implants are placed, they are usually placed through small incisions in the mouth, but may also be placed via a lower eyelid incision. The specially selected implant is placed against the under developed cheekbones so as to create a desirable fullness in this area.
In cheek fat reduction cases where the buccal fat pads are reduced, an incision in the mouth is also used. Here the excess fat in the cheeks is gently teased out and removed. The removal of this fat creates a more defined facial profile and corrects for the 'chubby' appearance of the cheeks. In all cheek surgery procedures, Dr. Fakhre will utilize absorbable sutures to close the incisions.
Recovery following Cheek Implants or Cheek Fat Reduction
Cheek surgery is generally very well tolerated. Patients often will experience varying degrees of swelling and bruising which may be minimized by keeping their heads elevated over the level of their hearts and with the use of ice packs. Patients should plan for a restful week following surgery. Strenuous activity should be avoided until cleared by Dr. Fakhre.
Pain after surgery is typically well controlled with the oral pain medications that Dr. Fakhre will prescribe. Complications following cheek surgery are rare, but may occur. You will be given Dr. Fakhre's comprehensive intructions prior to surgery. By carefully reading and following these instructions, you will help reduce the risk of problems after your procedure.
