Tampa Male Neck Lift
A neck lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at correcting the laxity and excess skin of the neck. As men age the skin on the neck can become loose and begin to sag. In addition to the natural aging process, genetics, sun damage and stress all contribute to producing an aged appearance. Unfortunately non-invasive treatments do little to improve the appearance of a man’s neck.
Fortunately, the youthful characteristics of a defined and contoured jaw line and neck can be restored with neck lift surgery. By combining several techniques, multiple issues are able to be addressed. Techniques such as liposuction, direct fat and skin excision as well as re-suspension and tightening of the neck muscles are all utilized to improve the appearance of the neck. Excess fatty tissue, loose skin and platysmal muscle bands can all be corrected during the procedure. Depending of the degree of laxity present, Dr. Fakhre will determine which technique is best suited for you. A neck lift may be performed alone, or as an adjunct to a facelift depending upon the needs of the patient.
Reasons for Considering a Neck Lift for Men in Tampa:
-
Prominent sagging and laxity of the skin involving the neck and jaw line. This is frequently referred to as a "turkey gobbler neck"
-
Noticeable muscle bands and excess skin folds that draw attention to an aging neck
-
Excess fullness of the neck and loss of definition of the jaw line, commonly referred to as a double chin
The Male Neck Lift Procedure
The specific surgical techniques used in neck lift surgery depend on the patient’s underlying abnormality. The procedure is typically performed under sedation or general anesthesia. The incisions for a neck lift in men are very well hidden. They are generally placed in convenient skin creases underneath the chin and/or behind the ears.
Depending on the amount of excess fat present, liposuction alone or direct excision of fat will be performed. Frequently a combination of both procedures is performed. Next the plastysmal muscle bands are corrected with the use of special sutures to tighten and create a smooth and defined neck contour. Finally the loose and sagging skin is lifted, redraped and the excess removed.
Neck lift surgery in men typically lasts between two and four hours, but more time may be required if other procedures are being performed as well. Patients are able to return home the same day of surgery.
Recovery following a Neck Lift for Men
In order to help decrease recovery time and swelling, the neck will be dressed with special bandages immediately following surgery. Small drains may also be placed during surgery and Dr. Fakhre will typically remove these the day after surgery. Sutures are removed one week later. After surgery, it is recommended that you spend the week resting quietly. It is also advised to keep your head elevated above the level of heart to help reduce swelling.
Although rare, complications can occur but by carefully following Dr. Fakhre’s perioperative instructions, you can help to minimize the risk of complications. Pain is generally well tolerated following a neck lift, but oral pain medications are prescribed.
