Tampa Pec Implants or Pectoral Implants

Pectoral implant surgery, or pec implants as they are more commonly referred to, is a male cosmetic plastic surgery procedure that is used to improve the appearance of a man's chest. This procedure uses a safe, FDA approved soft, solid implant that is designed to increase the size and definition of the male chest. Pectoral implants may be used in both cosmetic and reconstructive patients.

Pectoral implant surgery is an excellent option for men who desire a fuller, more defined chest. Often times because of genetics, men have a difficult time developing their pectoral muscles with exercise. In these cases pectoral implants are an ideal option for improving their body proportions and appearance. In reconstructive plastic surgery, men who have Polands syndrome or absence of the pectoralis muscle, pectus carinatum or pigeons chest and pectus excavatum or funnel chest are also excellent candidates for male pectoral implants. At New Tampa Plastic Surgery, Dr. Fakhre will discuss the specific implant types with you and help you determine which option is best for you.

Reasons for Considering Pectoral Implants or Pec Implant Surgery in Tampa:

  • Desire for a fuller, more defined chest
  • Inability to adequately develop pectoralis muscles with exercise
  • Atrophy or wasting of pectoralis muscle following traumatic injury
  • Congenital issues like polands syndrome, pectus carinatum or  pectus excavatum

The Pectoral Implant Procedure

During your consultation Dr. Fakhre will take careful measurements of your chest and learn what your desired goals are. Next the specific implant to be used will be decided upon. Pectoral implant surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure and usually takes one to two hours. Patients are able to go home later the same day following their procedure.

The surgery itself is performed with a small incision neatly placed adjacent to the chest. Dissection is then performed to create a pocket for the implant beneath the pectoralis muscle. The implant is then carefully positioned to produce the desired results. The incision is closed with absorbable sutures. A compressive bandage is placed to help minimize swelling.

Recovery following Pec Implants

The recovery after having pec implants placed is generally well tolerated. Dr. Fakhre will wrap your chest with a special compression bandage after surgery. This will help to reduce the amount of swelling and bruising that occurs. Patients should plan for a restful week after surgery.

Pain that occurs following pectoral augmentation is usually well controlled with oral pain medications. Complications after the placement of pec implants are rare, but may occur. You will be given a thorough postoperative instruction sheet written by Dr. Fakhre. Following these instructions will help reduce the risk of complications after surgery.
