Tampa Labiaplasty or Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

Labiaplasty or labia reduction surgery is a procedure that reduces the size of overly enlarged labia minora. Sometimes referred to as Vaginal rejuvenation surgery, this procedure has gained great popularity in recent years. Genetics, hormonal changes and increasing age can all contribute to the enlargement of the labia minora. This enlargement can serve as a source of embarrassment with a sexual partner, or may cause pain during intercourse or while wearing tight fitting clothing. Some patients may have significant asymmetry of their labia minora and this may also cause them to be self conscious about their bodies.

There are several variations of the labiaplasty procedure that are performed at New Tampa Plastic Surgery. During your consultation with Dr. Fakhre he will help determine which type of labia reduction is best for you.

Reasons for Considering Labiaplasty or Labia Reduction Surgery in Tampa:

• Overly enlarged or asymmetric labia minora which may cause embarrassment during intimacy
• Pain or discomfort during intercourse or while wearing tight fitting clothing or underwear
• Darkening of the labia minora which can produce an aged and unattractive appearance

The Labiaplasty Procedure

The type of labiaplasty selected depends in great part to the patients desires. Some patients find a darker colored labia minora unattractive and desire a labia reduction that corrects this darkened color. In these patients a labial flap reduction technique is selected that ensures that the darker colored portions of the labia are removed, leaving behind a lighter colored and more youthful appearing labia.

Other patients prefer to preserve the darker colored margins of the labia minora in addition to reducing its size. In these patients a reduction labiaplasty technique is performed that reduces the size of the enlarged labia minora while maintaining its darker colored borders. In all labiaplasty procedures, absorbable sutures are used for wound closure.

Labiaplasty may be performed under local or general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes about one hour to perform and patients are discharged home later the same day.

Recovery following Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery or Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty surgery is generally very well tolerated. As with all surgical procedures, a restful week should be planned for after surgery. The labia given their thin skin, will swell significantly after surgery. This swelling is usually much improved after one week and essentially resolved by two weeks. Dr. Fakhre will ask you to avoid tight fitting underwear during the recovery phase. Sexual intercourse should also be avoided for several weeks after the procedure.

Complications after Labiaplasty are rare, but can occur. You will be given Dr. Fakhre's comprehensive instruction sheet before surgery. Carefully reading it and following these instructions will help reduce the risk of complications.
